As revealed by Portland Communication’s annual Commercial Courts Report, the number of Russian litigants resorting to London’s commercial courts plummeted significantly over the last year. From April 2023 to March 2024, Russian businesses and individuals made 27 appearances in the Commercial Courts, marking less than half the number registered in the same period the preceding year where 58 Russian litigants employed the courts. The reasons for this development have yet to emerge, but the decrease is too considerable to be overlooked by experts across legal professions.
Interestingly, while Russian users experienced a drop, London’s Commercial Courts saw an unprecedented number of international litigants. The factors driving this increase have not been defined succinctly, but its impact is equally deserving of examination as it has potential implications for global legal practices and strategies.
