Elon Musk’s Attorney Alex Spiro Secures Court’s Nod to Participate in Texas Defamation Case

Elon Musk’s lawyer, Alex Spiro, from Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP, has been granted permission to defend him against defamation claims in Texas. The decision was made by Judge Maria Cantú Hexsel of the 53rd Civil District Court in Travis County. Spiro, who is based in Quinn Emanuel’s New York office, had faced controversy for working on the case prior to receiving the court’s permission. Despite this, Judge Hexsel approved Spiro’s motion to participate as a non-Texas lawyer. Typically, such requests are granted without significant hindrance, but Spiro’s pre-approval activities, including preparing and signing a motion and defending Musk during a deposition, raised objections from the opposing counsel.
