Norton Rose Fulbright is reinforcing its commitment to expand its US headcount by bringing in a 12-lawyer team from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner. The group, which includes three new partners in St. Louis—Jeff Kalinowski, Eric Martin, and Jeff Ziesman—and one in Denver, Laura Perlov, is set to strengthen Norton Rose’s regulatory, investigations, securities, and compliance practice.
Jeff Cody, Norton Rose’s US managing partner, highlighted the strategic nature of these additions. “Their arrival expands our already strong global investigations offering, which will continue to be an area of growth over the coming years,” Cody stated. The firm aims to reach 1,000 lawyers in the US by the end of next year, aligning with Cody’s plans disclosed in an interview from June 7. As it stands, the firm is projected to have about 900 US-based lawyers by the end of the current year.
The newly integrated team marks a substantial boost for Norton Rose’s US regulatory, investigations, securities, and compliance practice. Within the last four years, the practice has nearly doubled to 58 lawyers, with 11 of the 23 partners joining since 2021. The practice group’s objectives are clear, focusing on increasing their expertise in digital assets disputes and expanding their regulatory oversight and compliance capabilities.
Kalinowski, who has an extensive track record with broker-dealers and investment advisers, is known for his proficiency in handling securities-related jury trials, bench trials, and arbitrations. Martin, formerly a co-leader of Bryan Cave’s financial services disputes and investigations group, will now lead Norton Rose’s digital assets disputes practice in the US. Ziesman and Perlov bring considerable experience in regulatory matters and crisis management respectively, thereby fortifying the firm’s capabilities in navigating complex securities regulation and enforcement proceedings.
In addition to the four partners, the group includes senior counsel Shea Hicks and David Miller, counsel Natalie Becker and Shannon Wheaton, and four associates, enhancing the firm’s depth and breadth in key practice areas.
