In the face of generative AI’s ambiguous legal ramifications and perceived threats to job security within legal departments, the technology could ultimately aid in mitigating lawyers’ mental health concerns, according to Ironclad’s 2024 State of AI in Legal report. The report underscores the potential of AI to streamline mundane and dissatisfying tasks, which are contributing to burnout among legal professionals.

“Everyone is constantly telling us how buried they are and there’s too much work to be done. And you’re a cost center by nature, you can’t deny it. So, your incentive is always to get more done, faster,” remarked Mary O’Carroll, chief community officer at Ironclad. This aligns with the report’s findings, suggesting that AI could help in-house lawyers alleviate some of their workload pressures.

Mary O’Carroll and insights from Ironclad depict a hopeful outlook for AI in reshaping the landscape of in-house legal work, where stress and workload are perennial challenges. For more detailed insights, check out the full report and further discussion here.
