Jones Day Boost New York Tax Group with Veteran IRS Litigator Justin Campolieta

Jones Day, an international law firm, has announced the addition of a prominent IRS litigator, Justin Campolieta, to its New York tax group. Campolieta, who joins as a partner, brings nearly two decades of experience from his tenure at the IRS Office of the Chief Counsel. Most recently, he served as a senior special trial attorney in the agency’s Westbury office.

Leon DeJulius Jr., Jones Day’s partner-in-charge of the New York office, described Campolieta as “one of the go-to trial lawyers for the IRS.” DeJulius highlighted the expansion of the firm’s tax team, which boasts over 70 lawyers globally.

Campolieta’s notable achievements include a leading role in the IRS’s success in a significant transfer pricing case against Coca-Cola Co. The ruling resulted in the company owing an additional $3.1 billion in taxes for the years 2007 through 2009.

Edward Kennedy, co-leader of Jones Day’s tax practice, commended Campolieta’s extensive experience with high-profile transfer pricing matters involving major multinationals. “His deep insight into examination, collection, litigation, and settlement of tax cases will be a tremendous asset,” Kennedy stated in a firm-issued release.

Campolieta expressed his enthusiasm for joining Jones Day, emphasizing the collaborative relationship between the firm’s tax and business litigators. “This combination of tax and business-focused litigation experience and knowledge is really unparalleled,” he said. “I can’t wait to start contributing to such a uniquely talented team.”
