Florida Federal Judge Rules “Worlds” Too Generic for Cheerleading Trademark Protection

A recent decision by a Florida federal judge has resulted in a summary judgment victory for two cheerleading organizations in a trademark infringement case brought by the U.S. All Star Federation (USASF). The lawsuit centered on the use of the term “Worlds” in relation to the USASF’s marquee competitive cheerleading event. The judge determined that the term “Worlds” is too generic to warrant trademark protection, thereby rejecting the claims that the defendants had illegally appropriated it.
