In a coordinated effort between Spanish and German authorities, four individuals have been arrested on suspicion of collaborating with Hezbollah, according to an announcement from the Guardia Civil. They are accused of supplying the militant group with components necessary to build kamikaze drones intended for use in attacks against Israel.
Spanish authorities became aware of large purchases of materials used in drone construction, such as electric guidance components, propulsion propellers, and gasoline engines, from Spanish companies operated by Lebanese nationals. This initially raised suspicions and prompted the investigation leading to the arrests.
German authorities reported that the individual detained in Germany, identified as Fadel Z., has been charged with membership in a terrorist organization under Sections 129a and 129b of the German Criminal Code. A press release from German prosecutors indicates that Fadel Z. joined Hezbollah in Lebanon by the summer of 2016 and has been procuring drone components in Germany since 2024, which were intended for export to Lebanon for terrorist actions against Israel.
Hezbollah, a militant organization based in Lebanon, has been labeled a terrorist group by numerous countries, including the United States. The conflict between Lebanon and Israel has intensified, particularly following the October 2023 war in Gaza. The UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has described the current situation as “quite volatile.” A Hezbollah official recently indicated a willingness to cease attacks on Israel if a ceasefire in Gaza is achieved, as reported by the Times of Israel.
