Earlier this year, davinci launched in beta, promising to revolutionize patent prosecution for intellectual property practitioners. Now, this innovative tool is emerging from beta under a new name, DeepIP, and is available for general use, featuring a direct integration with Microsoft Word.
DeepIP operates as an AI copilot within Word or as a standalone web application. It aims to streamline the entire patent prosecution workflow, aiding in patent preparation, drafting, review, and responses to office actions. According to François-Xavier (FX) Leduc, co-founder and CEO of Kili Technology, the new name reflects the company’s ambition to delve deeper into the workflow of patent practitioners.
To use DeepIP in Word, attorneys click a button on the Word ribbon, which brings up a chatbot interface. After inputting relevant data and queries, DeepIP sifts through various legal and inventor documents, offering suggestions for drafting and structuring claims, describing figures, and generating specification sections. The tool also assists with reviewing and editing applications to minimize errors.
For responding to office actions, DeepIP analyzes both the application and the prior art referenced by the examiner. It evaluates the strengths of the office action arguments and recommends whether to contest or amend the claim based on key issues.
“AI is having a profound impact on the practice of IP law, including patents, historically one of the most complex and manual areas of legal practice,” Leduc said. “We are proud to release DeepIP, which adds the advantage of being embedded in Microsoft Word.”
The Word add-in for DeepIP is available through the Microsoft AppSource marketplace. DeepIP is also accessible as a web application and utilizes Microsoft Azure for its cloud infrastructure, ensuring GDPR compliance and maintaining SOC II Type 2 and ISO 27001 certifications.
DeepIP’s developer, Kili Technology, was founded in 2018 in France and specializes in creating high-quality data sets for AI training. The company has built AI products for notable clients like SAP, Airbus, and the Allen Institute for AI.
