Gavel Introduces Free Automated Workflows to Simplify Legal Document Generation for California Practitioners

Gavel, a document automation company, has unveiled pre-built workflows designed to offer automated document generation tailored to specific practice areas and jurisdictions. These workflows are free for any lawyer to test without requiring a Gavel subscription. The launch includes three workflows focused on California law, specifically addressing divorce, probate, and estate planning.

According to Gavel founder and CEO Dorna Moini, the development of these workflows is aimed at encouraging adoption of document automation among lawyers, particularly those in small and mid-sized firms. Moini believes that the low rate of document automation adoption, as indicated by the American Bar Association survey showing only one-third of lawyers use any document automation technology, presents a significant opportunity for law firms to improve their work product, competitiveness, and profitability. This is especially crucial as more legal services migrate towards alternative fee arrangements.

The pre-built workflows, available at no cost for anyone to try out multiple times, require no initial setup. If a user wants to store information and fully integrate these workflows into their practice, a Gavel account will be necessary. Each workflow operates by asking a series of questions to generate the relevant forms, with the initial set of workflows based on California Judicial Council forms and a range of estate planning documents.

Moini further articulated Gavel’s mission to make access to the law universal, noting that the speed at which legal knowledge can be automated within Gavel is a critical hurdle. By enabling automation, Gavel aims to help lawyers serve more clients efficiently and build sustainable, future-oriented, and profitable practices. This initiative follows Gavel’s earlier AI product launches and contributes another robust element to law firms’ operations.
