Union Pacific Corp. is set to undergo a transition in its legal leadership as the company prepares for the retirement of its chief legal officer and corporate secretary, Craig Richardson, on March 31, 2025. Richardson has held this key position within the Omaha, Nebraska-based railroad giant for over four years. This departure is part of a broader trend among major U.S railroad operators, with Union Pacific becoming the fourth to announce a change in its legal leadership within the last two months.
In line with these impending changes, Union Pacific has announced that Christina Conlin, who has most recently served as the chief risk officer at The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., will be joining the company as deputy general counsel on December 2. She has been appointed in “anticipation” of succeeding Richardson as the chief legal officer next year. Conlin’s experience and previous roles are expected to play an instrumental role in her new capacity as head of the legal department at Union Pacific.
Union Pacific’s announcement mirrors similar recent developments at other major rail companies, including Amtrak, CSX, and Norfolk Southern. These organizations are also reshuffling their legal teams at the top level, reflecting a period of significant change within the industry’s legal landscape.
