NWSL Settles Sex Abuse Case with $5 Million Agreement and Introduces New Safety Measures

The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has reached a $5 million settlement to conclude a sex abuse case, marking a significant development in the ongoing push to improve conditions within professional women’s sports. As part of the settlement, the NWSL has also committed to implementing enhanced safety protocols to protect its players. These measures include thorough vetting processes for coaches, multiple reporting mechanisms for players to lodge complaints, and the appointment of a league safety officer. In tandem with these safeguards, the league is offering free and unlimited counseling services to its players. This move is part of an effort to foster a safer and more supportive environment for athletes across the league, according to the Office of New York Attorney General Letitia James.
