According to John Tredennick, Merlin’s founder and CEO, Alchemy represents a pivotal evolution, marking the end of a five-year journey towards developing a truly transformative tool for managing large sets of complex documents during legal investigations. The Alchemy platform introduces key features that address previous limitations seen in generative AI applications within legal tech. In contrast to its predecessors, Alchemy offers a dual-window prompt architecture that separates search from formatting tasks, thus improving the precision and clarity of document analysis results. Additionally, the platform provides a more comprehensive overview of analyzed documents, going beyond the customary top 100, and supporting advanced interrogation across document datasets using major language models such as Claude and GPT.
One of the standout innovations is Alchemy’s approach to cost transparency. The platform gives users the ability to estimate the costs of running large language model (LLM) queries in real-time, helping to alleviate financial concerns associated with extensive AI deployments. This is coupled with a limitless document analysis capability and enhanced user control over follow-up queries, making it an attractive option for those seeking reliability and cost-effectiveness in legal data processing.
