McKesson’s Top Legal Executive Sees 41% Cut in 2025 Compensation Amid Strategy Shift

Michele Lau, the Chief Legal Officer and Executive Vice President at McKesson Corporation, experienced a significant decrease in her total compensation for the fiscal year 2025. As reported in a corporate filing, Lau’s earnings amounted to approximately $5.2 million, marking a 41% reduction from the prior year’s total of $8.8 million.

The noticeable decline in Lau’s compensation package can primarily be attributed to the absence of a previously granted bonus and a substantial reduction in her stock awards. In 2024, Lau was awarded a stock value of $6.9 million in addition to a $1.5 million bonus. However, the stock award for 2025 fell by 56%, bringing its value down to about $3 million, and the bonus was not repeated this year.

As corporations frequently adjust compensation structures to align with performance metrics and market conditions, this development highlights the variable nature of executive compensation. The stock awards, often a significant component of high-level corporate compensation, are contingent on various factors including the company’s performance and market conditions, both of which may have influenced McKesson’s decision to reassess compensation strategies.
