A Utah-based company has initiated legal proceedings against Skechers U.S.A. Inc., alleging “massive infringement” of patents related to hands-free slip-in shoes. The lawsuit, filed in a Texas federal court, contends that Skechers has unlawfully utilized patented designs without authorization.
This legal action underscores the intensifying competition and frequent intellectual property disputes within the footwear industry. Skechers, known for its innovative designs, has previously been both plaintiff and defendant in similar cases. Notably, in August 2023, Skechers filed a lawsuit against Laforst Shoes Inc., accusing the company of infringing on five patents associated with its hands-free slip-in sneakers. The complaint highlighted that Laforst’s products incorporated a heel design strikingly similar to Skechers’ patented features.
