Saul Ewing LLP has expanded its transactional team in Philadelphia with the addition of Michael Duffy, an experienced corporate attorney. Duffy, who previously practiced at Montgomery McCracken Walker & Rhoads LLP for over three years, will focus on mergers and acquisitions and other commercial transactions in his new role.
Philadelphia Office Managing Partner Amy Piccola expressed enthusiasm about Duffy’s arrival, highlighting his strong connections to the local business community and his comprehensive understanding of the legal complexities involved in corporate transactions. She noted that his experience spans from advising start-ups to well-established enterprises.
Duffy’s practice encompasses representing clients in business sales, investment opportunities—including private equity-backed ventures—and assisting with debt and equity financings, investment fund formations, and private placement offerings under Regulation D. He also provides legal guidance to start-up entities and venture capital funds on financing across various stages, from early-stage seed financing to later growth-phase rounds, as well as on general corporate matters.
Before joining Montgomery McCracken, Duffy worked as a Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) licensed representative for a national mutual fund company. He earned his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law-Newark and his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University.
Saul Ewing LLP, a full-service national law firm with more than 400 attorneys, continues to strengthen its capabilities in corporate law with strategic hires like Duffy. The firm emphasizes practical, proactive advice and excellent client service, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
In recent years, Montgomery McCracken has experienced several departures. In July 2025, Dilworth Paxson LLP announced the addition of an attorney who moved her practice after more than a year with Montgomery McCracken. Similarly, in June 2023, a team of former Montgomery McCracken attorneys joined Berger Montague’s Philadelphia office to help launch a new intellectual property practice.
These movements reflect the dynamic nature of Philadelphia’s legal market, where firms continually adapt to meet client needs and attorneys seek opportunities that align with their professional goals.
