Mayer Brown Expands Renewable Energy Expertise with Strategic Legal Hires

Mayer Brown LLP has announced the addition of six attorneys to its Projects & Infrastructure group, enhancing its capabilities in the renewable energy sector. The team is led by partners Elina Coss and Trevor Shelton, who bring extensive experience in energy project finance.

Elina Coss, formerly with Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, will be based in Mayer Brown’s New York and London offices. She specializes in the development, financing, acquisition, and disposition of energy and infrastructure projects, with a focus on renewable and alternative energy sectors such as solar, wind, and energy storage. Her clients include sponsors, developers, lenders, and investors involved in complex asset-based financings across various capital structures.

Trevor Shelton, previously at Vinson & Elkins LLP, will join the firm’s Los Angeles office. With over 15 years of experience, he has advised on transactions totaling more than eight gigawatts of renewable energy capacity and over $13 billion in investment. His practice encompasses a wide range of financings, including tax equity, construction, and term debt, as well as project development matters and asset acquisitions in the renewable energy sector.

In addition to Coss and Shelton, the team includes one counsel and three associates, expanding Mayer Brown’s presence across its offices in London, New York, Chicago, Washington DC, and Los Angeles. This strategic expansion aims to meet the growing demand for infrastructure assets and provide comprehensive guidance to global investors in the renewable energy market.

Joe Seliga, co-leader of Mayer Brown’s Projects & Infrastructure team, emphasized the significance of this addition, stating that the in-depth knowledge of Coss and Shelton across all areas of infrastructure uniquely positions them to offer practical and commercial guidance to leading global investors who are fueling the growth of infrastructure as an asset class.

This move is part of Mayer Brown’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its global project finance capabilities. In recent years, the firm has made several strategic hires to bolster its energy and infrastructure practices. For instance, in September 2024, Mayer Brown welcomed Vinita Sithapathy as a partner in its Corporate & Securities practice in New York, enhancing its M&A and infrastructure capabilities. Sithapathy brought over a decade of experience representing public and private companies, private equity sponsors, and other investors in a range of domestic and cross-border transactions across various industries, including energy and infrastructure.

Furthermore, in May 2025, Mayer Brown expanded its M&A group with the addition of Aideen Brennan as a partner in its global Corporate & Securities practice in New York. Brennan’s expertise in financial services, mergers and acquisitions, and private equity further strengthened the firm’s offerings in these areas.

These strategic additions reflect Mayer Brown’s commitment to enhancing its services in the energy and infrastructure sectors, positioning the firm to better serve clients in an increasingly competitive and evolving market.
