Jenner & Block Strengthens Antitrust Expertise with Return of Shaun Van Horn to Chicago Office

Jenner & Block has announced the return of antitrust attorney Shaun Van Horn to its Chicago office, bolstering the firm’s Business Litigation and Antitrust and Competition Law Practices. Van Horn, who previously spent 15 years at Jenner & Block, rejoins after a year at Fish & Richardson, where he focused on intellectual property and antitrust matters.

Co-Managing Partners Ishan Bhabha and Randy Mehrberg highlighted Van Horn’s unique combination of antitrust and intellectual property expertise, emphasizing its alignment with the firm’s commitment to delivering exceptional results amid heightened regulatory scrutiny. They expressed enthusiasm for the synergies his return is expected to create within the practice.

Van Horn’s experience includes defending clients against price-fixing claims, securing dismissals of exclusive dealing allegations, and negotiating outcomes in cartel and merger transactions. His commercial disputes practice has encompassed financial services matters involving hedge funds, private equity, and complex derivative instruments.

Co-Chairs of the Antitrust and Competition Law Practice, Doug Litvack and David Singer, noted that Van Horn’s deep antitrust litigation experience comes at a critical time, as clients navigate an uptick in antitrust litigation. They emphasized that his track record in defending clients against competition claims and securing regulatory approvals strengthens the firm’s growing team and enhances its ability to serve clients.

Van Horn expressed excitement about returning to Jenner & Block, citing the firm’s antitrust momentum and the opportunity to contribute to the practice during a pivotal time of unprecedented regulatory enforcement. He looks forward to focusing on antitrust, commercial contract disputes, and patent matters.

Van Horn’s return follows his departure from Jenner & Block in February 2024, when he joined Fish & Richardson alongside colleague Louis Fogel to expand their Life Sciences Industry Team. During his tenure at Fish & Richardson, Van Horn focused on patent litigation for biosimilars companies and other biotech innovators, as well as counseling on IP-related antitrust issues.

Jenner & Block has been actively enhancing its antitrust capabilities. In June 2025, the firm welcomed former DOJ Antitrust Division Counsel Jariel Rendell as a partner in its Washington, DC office. Additionally, in August 2021, the firm expanded its Antitrust and Competition Law Practice with the addition of former FTC lawyers Christopher Renner and Douglas Litvack, who now serve as co-chairs of the practice.

These strategic hires underscore Jenner & Block’s commitment to strengthening its antitrust practice to better serve clients facing complex regulatory challenges.
