Sidley Austin LLP has announced the return of Justin Becker to its Washington, D.C., office as a partner in the firm’s Global Arbitration, Trade & Advocacy practice. Becker, who previously spent nine years at Sidley, rejoins after serving as a partner in Baker McKenzie’s Trade practice and holding a position at the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration.
Becker’s practice focuses on trade remedy matters, including antidumping and countervailing duty proceedings before the Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission. He also handles Section 301 and Section 232 investigations and has appeared before the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Additionally, he has argued before a Chapter 19 NAFTA panel and is on the USMCA Dispute Settlement Panels Roster on behalf of the United States.
Yvette Ostolaza, Sidley’s Management Committee Chair, highlighted Becker’s experience in handling high-value antidumping and countervailing duty investigations, noting its importance for clients across industries given the current trade environment and the firm’s global platform. She also emphasized his understanding of the complexities of U.S. and international trade proceedings, gained from his time at the Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration.
Kristin Graham Koehler, managing partner of Sidley’s Washington, D.C., office, expressed enthusiasm about Becker’s return, citing his strong client connections and deep relationships within the firm. She noted that his collaboration would expand Sidley’s capabilities for existing platform clients as well as new clients on trade matters.
