Big 12 Conference Strengthens Leadership Team with Appointment of Logan Phillip as General Counsel

The Big 12 Conference has appointed Logan Phillip as its General Counsel, elevating her from her previous role as Interim General Counsel and Associate Vice President for Legal Affairs. In this capacity, Phillip will serve as the chief legal advisor to Commissioner Brett Yormark, the Conference’s leadership, and its member institutions, providing strategic guidance on legal, compliance, governance, and risk-management matters. Her responsibilities will also encompass leading the Conference’s in-house commercial legal functions and advising on enterprise-level initiatives related to media, sponsorship, licensing, technology, and name, image, and likeness (NIL) issues.

Commissioner Yormark expressed confidence in Phillip’s capabilities, stating, “Logan has been a trusted advisor during a pivotal time for the Conference. Her thoughtful counsel, business mindset, and steady leadership make her a tremendous asset to our league. We’re proud to name her General Counsel and look forward to the impact she will continue to make.”

Since joining the Big 12 in 2020, Phillip has progressed through several key positions, including Associate Vice President of Legal Affairs (2024-2026), Senior Director of Legal Affairs and Compliance (2022-2024), and Assistant Director for Compliance & Governance (2020-2022). During her tenure, she has been instrumental in shaping the Conference’s legal strategies, notably leading negotiations for significant agreements such as the league’s first conference-wide partnership with PayPal. She also played a crucial role in establishing the Conference’s first in-house commercial legal department, transitioning from a fully outsourced model to an integrated internal function to support the Big 12’s expanding business operations.

Before her tenure at the Big 12, Phillip held positions within collegiate athletics at UC Santa Barbara (2018-2020) and Texas Tech University (2016-2017). She also served as a legal extern with Spurs Sports & Entertainment in 2018. A native of Grapevine, Texas, Phillip earned her Juris Doctor with a concentration in Business Law from Texas Tech University School of Law and is a member of the State Bar of Texas. She graduated magna cum laude from Oklahoma State University with a major in Sports Media, Multimedia Journalism.

This appointment is part of a broader organizational restructuring within the Big 12 Conference. In July 2025, the Conference announced key promotions, including the elevation of Tyrel Kirkham to Chief Brand and Business Officer and Jessica Presnall to Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel. Presnall, who joined the Big 12 in 2015, has held various roles, including Chief Legal & Business Affairs Officer and Vice President of Legal Affairs and Compliance. In her current role, she oversees Legal Affairs, Compliance & Governance, Student-Athlete Success & Impact, Human Resources, and Administration.

These leadership changes reflect the Big 12 Conference’s commitment to strengthening its internal operations and legal frameworks as it navigates the evolving landscape of collegiate athletics.
