SCOTUSblog Unveils Major Redesign: Enhancing Accessibility and Expanding Coverage

SCOTUSblog has unveiled a comprehensive redesign, marking a significant shift in both aesthetics and functionality, a little over a year after its acquisition by The Dispatch. The redesign initiative aligns with the commitment made at the time of acquisition to enhance the blog’s rigorous reporting and analysis on the U.S. Supreme Court, aiming to make it more accessible to both legal professionals and the general public.

Among the notable changes, SCOTUSblog has expanded its coverage of every case argued before the Supreme Court and recruited nearly 20 new columnists who offer diverse insights into the court’s major rulings. Moreover, the blog continues to live blog at least one argument in every sitting and on each opinion release day. It also boasts a daily newsletter with over 80,000 subscribers, along with reinstated and enhanced statistical analyses known as the Stat Pack, which now includes the interim docket, offering potent resources for court enthusiasts.

The redesigned website features an improved user experience, illustrated by an interface that reads more like a magazine than a traditional blog. This revamp includes a separation between news and commentary in the navigation bar, allowing users to easily toggle between factual content and opinion pieces. Additionally, SCOTUSblog has enhanced its coverage calendar, solidifying its position as a premier source for Supreme Court updates, including arguments, announcements, and other notable events.

The infrastructure behind SCOTUSblog’s case pages has been substantially improved, providing key data and analyses for each case, tailored for both practitioners and casual readers. In the coming weeks, the site plans to further enhance their statistical offerings, providing in-depth insights such as how each justice votes and the coalitions they form.

The launch of a newsletter by its popular podcast, Advisory Opinions, is scheduled for April 28. This newsletter aims to complement the podcast by compiling key arguments and points from each episode in a concise format. Moreover, the redesign has vastly improved the mobile user experience, making SCOTUSblog’s content more accessible to users on the go.
