Sandstone, a technology startup specializing in artificial intelligence solutions, has secured a $30 million Series A funding round, marking its second significant investment in 2026. The funding was led by CapitalG, Alphabet’s independent growth fund, with participation from existing investors Index Ventures and Puzzle Ventures.
Founded in 2023 by former Stripe executives Duco van Lanschot and David Schreiber, Sandstone aims to build a global trust infrastructure by providing a digital passport for every business. This initiative seeks to evolve into a network for shareable identity and one-click onboarding, addressing the complexities of business identity verification.
The company’s AI-native business identity platform currently serves large banks, fintechs, platforms, and financial institutions. Clients such as Plaid, CCV (Fiserv), Moss, Bol, and SVEA bank have reported significant improvements, including 10.6 times faster onboarding processes and 4.8 times productivity gains.
Duco van Lanschot highlighted the pressing need for efficient identity solutions, noting that compliance and identity processes can consume up to 10-20% of a bank’s total costs. He emphasized that the expensive and manual legacy systems lead to billions lost in fraud, friction, and fines, as well as lost income from refusals of legitimate customers, making it an ideal use case for AI automation.
David Schreiber added that the need for a secure business identity has never been more urgent, as AI enables an acceleration in the velocity and sophistication of fraud. He stated that Sandstone will help companies root out this fraud, turning a decades-old compliance cost center into a core revenue driver.
The recent funding will be utilized to expand Sandstone’s enterprise capabilities with compliant, auditable AI, while maintaining the high regulatory standards required by banks and large enterprises. This investment underscores the growing importance of secure and efficient business identity verification in the digital economy.
