Prior to joining Kilpatrick, Martin served as Director of External Relations for Washington Governor Bob Ferguson. In this role, she managed relationships between the Governor’s Office and local communities, tribal governments, and other stakeholders across the state. Notably, she was the first Native American to serve on the Governor’s Executive Team and played a key role in developing Executive Order 25-10, aimed at improving state-tribal relations. Before her tenure in the Governor’s Office, Martin dedicated over a decade to the Snoqualmie Tribe as the Governmental Affairs and Special Projects Executive Director. She established the Tribe’s first Governmental Affairs team and led initiatives on tribal sovereignty, taxation, cultural resource protection, and ancestral land reclamation. Her efforts included managing the Tribe’s acquisition of the Salish Lodge and Spa and overseeing the purchase of 12,000 acres of forest land in east King County, part of the Tribe’s traditional homelands.
