A former African American associate at the prestigious law firm Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, has decided to appeal the verdict of a jury which ruled that the firm and two other defendants had not retaliated against him when he spoke up about racial bias and diversity.
The jury’s decision came after the associate put forth allegations of the companies’ non-responsive actions following his voicing concerns regarding issues of racial bias within the firm and their poor diversity representation.
The appeal highlights the ongoing international conversation on race and representation, particularly within structures of power and influence such as the corporate domain of law firms.
