Jenny Martinez Named Stanford Provost, Joins ABA Task Force on American Democracy

Jenny S. Martinez, who had been serving as the Richard E. Lang Professor of Law and Dean of Stanford Law School since 2019, has been appointed as Stanford University’s 14th provost. Martinez assumed the new role on October 1, 2023, making her one of the most influential figures in the university’s administration.

In addition to her new responsibilities at Stanford, Martinez was recently appointed to the American Bar Association’s new Task Force for American Democracy. Announced in August 2023, the task force is co-chaired by former Federal Judge J. Michael Luttig and former Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Charles Johnson. It aims to address pressing issues such as depoliticizing the administration of elections, educating the public on democratic principles, and identifying potential improvements and innovations in the U.S. electoral system.

The official announcement of her new roles highlights Martinez’s significant contributions to both legal education and public service.
